Dr Lisa Ganobcsik-Williams is the founding Co-ordinator of the Centre for Academic Writing at Coventry University. Formerly Co-ordinator of Academic Writing for the University of Warwick Writing Programme, Lisa has taught writing courses for undergraduate and postgraduate students across the disciplines. She has also taught Composition and tutored in US university writing centres. Lisa has published articles on designing a corpus of UK student writing, on Academic Writing provision and institutional change, and on comparing the teaching of Academic Writing in higher education across cultures. She has also edited Academic Writing: Theories and Practices (Palgrave/MacMillan, 2006).
In 1999 the RLF awarded Lisa a Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship. Lisas main project, A Report on the Teaching of Academic Writing in UK Higher Education (London: Royal Literary Fund, 2004), was a comprehensive survey of staff perspectives on the teaching of writing in UK higher education and a map of current university Academic Writing programmes and initiatives. A subsidiary project was to collect data on writing tutorials and on the needs of todays student writers. Lisa designed record-keeping forms for use by RLF Fellows and in 2004 submitted a report on data-collection to the RLF.
From 1999-2004 Lisa worked closely with a number of RLF Fellows at the University of Warwick, and in 2001 grants from the RLF and the Arts Council of England enabled Lisa and Warwick Writing Programme colleagues to host Teaching Writing in Higher Education, an international conference on Academic Writing pedagogy and theory. Lisa is currently a member of the RLFs Academic Panel.
