Jonny Wright

Jonny Wright is a playwright and screenwriter. In 2010 his play Get the Greedy was commissioned by Immediate Theatre and had a run at the Arcola Tent Theatre. In 2011 Immediate Theatre commissioned him again for his play Yellow Brick Road. This play had a run at Chats Palace. Jonny has also had play commissions from Talawa Theatre and Rattling Stick. In 2008 Jonny came second in Soho Theatre’s Westminster Prize for his play Finding Fatima. Screen-wise, Jonny won the BBC’s All Mixed Up sitcom writing competition, has had two sitcoms optioned by the BBC and has had commissions from Channel 4 and Film 4. His feature film Northern Monkeys was optioned by Pampaset Productions and in 2012 he won the Brian Glover Award for his short film Soldier Boy. Off the back of his short film The Score, Jonny was selected for b3 Media’s 2014 Talent Lab. He directed his own short film Huey and Louis, which was produced by MHA Global Productions. They went on to commission Jonny to write a short film called Harvest. Jonny is also an actor and has been in a Mike Leigh film. In 2014 he starred in his short play Swallow the Leader at the Bush Theatre. He is also a rapper who goes by the name XYM. He has written a hip-hop theatre play called Up North that features his own music, and which was awarded Arts Council funding in 2015.
