Playwright David Spencer's works have premiered at the Royal Court, National and Soho theatres. His writings have brought him a number of awards, including the Verity Bargate Award, the Alfred Doblin residency and a residency in Schloss Wiepersdorf. His plays and translations have been shown internationally (in the USA, Ireland, Germany, Singapore, Spain, Australia and New Zealand). David has also written an opera libretto (Opera Circus), radio drama (BBC), and screenplays for film and TV (BBC, Channel 4, Working Title). Previous teaching gigs include the Schauspielhaus Vienna, the Burg Vienna, the Arden Manchester and residencies at the UdK Berlin (the University of Art Berlin), the FU Berlin (Free University), and the Deutsches Schauspielhaus Hamburg. David has also worked with youth offenders and adult prisoners, using creative writing to promote emotional development as well as with Ju Jitsu, as part of anti-violence initiatives. David's plays include: Releevo at the Soho; Killing the Cat at the Royal Court; Hurricane Roses at the National; Red Stars in Berlin (his home town since 1989) in its now famous Volksbuhne Ost; and lastly Raven in Southampton.
