Anne Wilson

Novelist, Non-fiction writer, Radio/tv/screenwriter

Anne Wilson is an award-winning scriptwriter, journalist and careers counsellor. After doing an MSc and a PhD in social psychology at the LSE, and publishing a book on children’s identity, she became a freelance journalist, writing for publications such as Just Seventeen, Cosmopolitan, the New York Times, Good Housekeeping and the Guardian. Anne moved on to writing for screen media and has won numerous awards for her films in the corporate sector. She has also published two crime novels, featuring Sara Kingsley, a single-mother detective — Truth or Dare and Governing Body — both published by the Women’s Press.

Anne is committed to teaching and mentoring and in 2010 she started offering private careers counselling to new graduates as well as advising university applicants on their personal statements. In this capacity, she writes occasional articles for a number of different websites, including Graduate Fog and Welldoing.

Anne believes that helping students to improve their writing, as well as showing them how to write powerfully and persuasively in different media, can make a real difference to their lives. Many jobs these days require people to write articles, reports, press releases, blog entries, website copy and twitter feeds, speeches and presentations. Each of these media has its own strengths and subtleties and demands a different writing technique and style. Anne is passionate about helping students learn how to write effectively in all media.

When not writing or mentoring, Anne is a keen mosaic artist and supports Arsenal football club.

Anne Wilson is an ex-journalist, novelist, short story and flash fiction writer, who also writes corporate film scripts and speeches. Anne has supported young people’s writing for many years – as a mentor for Year 13 school students preparing personal statements for university, as RLF Fellow at Brunel University from 2014 to 2017 and as a careers consultant helping new graduates to get jobs. She was also a volunteer counsellor at Childline for 5 years.
