'The jotter by the side of my bed for writing down my dreams still doesn't exist, but frequently I hop out of bed at 3 or 4 in the morning, stub a toe while stumbling to my desk, and try to catch some thoughts down on paper.'
'I write 'hot', or in other words quite quickly. Having left a completed draft well alone for a month or more I go back, cooler, chastened, ready to repent at leisure.'
