Making Writing Work: sign up for our first free webinar
- 24 November, 2025
Throughout 2026, the RLF’s new webinar series, Making Writing Work, will bring together experts and writers to explore the realities, practicalities, financial support opportunities and mindset needed to sustain a professional writing career today.
Join us on Tuesday, 27 January 2026 at 6pm (GMT) to kick off the New Year as multi-award-winning writer and broadcaster Nick Ahad hosts the first online session of this FREE four-part series. He will be joined by writers Emily Itami, Derek Keilty and Karen McCarthy Woolf (all pictured above, l-r) as they explore our first topic: The reality and identity of a professional writer today.
This session is supported by the Authors’ Licensing and Collecting Society (ALCS). Federica Fiorillo, International Rights and Policy Manager at ALCS, will join our speakers to provide additional insight, as the writers explore balancing their creative identity with the financial and practical realities of earning a living, and how this shapes careers, expectations and definitions of success.
You can register for the webinar here. Further topics and dates in the Making Writing Work webinar series will be announced in the New Year.
Ahead of the new webinar series Edward Kemp, Chief Executive of the RLF, said:
Launching our first webinar series is an exciting and important development for the Royal Literary Fund: a new way to converse with our writing community. We hope this will give those from all backgrounds the opportunity to hear about the reality of being a professional writer today and to learn from others who are successfully sustaining a financial model that balances both their professional and personal lives. We are delighted to be partnering with our colleagues at ALCS for this first webinar and Nick Ahad’s extensive experience as writer and broadcaster will ensure this conversation series is both informative and engaging.
Ryan Matthews, Digital Communications Manager at ALCS, said:
The Royal Literary Fund shares ALCS’s commitment to supporting writers and helping to sustain their careers. Their work provides practical, timely assistance to authors facing financial difficulty, helping ensure that writers can continue contributing to our cultural life. Our latest research on authors’ earnings shows that this work is more important than ever. We’re delighted to support this valuable webinar to give writers the knowledge and tools they need to sustain their careers.
