Bethany Rutter
Novelist
About
Bethany Rutter is the author of contemporary romance novels for adults and young people. Her background as a plus-size fashion blogger means she is particularly interested in writing about bodies, relationships and clothes, and that her work always centres around a plus-size protagonist. Her second novel for young adults, Melt My Heart, was shortlisted for the YA prize in 2021. She has also edited Plus+, a coffee-table book of plus-size style from around the world.
Almost all of her work revolves around books and publishing: as well as writing fiction, Bethany has been the host of the books podcast What Page Are You On?, and often works as a chair at literary events both online for the online events company Fane, and in person at venues such as Waterstones Piccadilly in London and Daunts in Summertown, Oxford, as well as carrying out freelance marketing work for a publisher. She has also run a romance-writing workshop for the Writers’ & Artists’ Yearbook, and given one-on-one writing feedback to students on the Curtis Brown Creative Writing YA & Middle Grade Fiction course.
Before becoming a self-employed author, Bethany was a journalist on financial and pharmaceutical magazines and websites before working in social media and marketing at a women’s plus-size fashion brand. She is studying to become a personal trainer and plans to write a nonfiction book about exercise at some point in her career. Bethany lives in southeast London with her husband and fat orange cat.
