Caroline Gawn writes radio drama for BBC Radio 4. Her most frequently repeated radio plays are Fresh From the Coast (Daily Play) and Fraud (Saturday Play). Her radio plays have been translated into German and are regularly broadcast in Germany and Austria. Caroline also writes television drama (BBC 1, Doctors) and contributes to drama documentary (BBC2, Art that Shook the World: The Marriage of Figaro). Her work for the stage includes plays such as Forget About It (Theatre Museum), Metropolitan Lines (Battersea Arts Centre), You Can All Love Me (Sherman Theatre); opera libretti Waterloo Bridge (ENO/ Almeida Theatre) and adaptations (Of Thee I Sing and Let ’em Eat Cake — Gershwin, Kaufman, Ryskind) for Opera North/Sadler’s Wells/Bregenz Festival and national tour, and Love Life (Lerner, Weill) for Opera North.

Caroline also works as a theatre and opera director in the UK and internationally. She has directed plays (including for Finborough Arms and Oval House Theatre); operas (including for Opera North, English National Opera/Almeida Theatre, Welsh National Opera, Der Vlaamse Opera, Bregenzer Festspiele; and musicals (for Polish national music theatre, Opera North, and Sadler’s Wells).

During the pandemic Caroline started working with young people retaking their GCSE English and she is continuing with this work. Caroline is currently writing an original screenplay for television and a play for theatre about the BBC.

Caroline enjoys walking and trips to the cinema and galleries.
