About
Emma Pass writes novels for children, young adults and adults. Her debut YA novel, dystopian thriller ACID (Penguin Random House, 2013), was nominated for the CILIP Carnegie Medal for Writing. Her first novel for adults, historical romance Before the Dawn (Head of Zeus/Bloomsbury, 2022), which was inspired by the ‘American Invasion’ of Devon when American troops came over to Britain to train for D-Day, was shortlisted for an award with the Romantic Novelists’ Association. She’s also written two interactive novels for English Language Teaching platform Fiction Express.
Emma also writes poetry, and in 2020 was commissioned by Derbyshire County Council and the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site to create Burn Bright, a poetry film telling the stories of the enslaved people and women who formed the backbone of the Industrial Revolution in Derbyshire. In 2022 she was awarded an Arts Council England DYCP grant to explore growing up with a disability and undiagnosed neurodivergence through poetry and memoir.
Emma, who lives with her husband and their retired racing greyhound near Chesterfield in Derbyshire, has been a Patron of Reading, and First Story writer in residence, working with young people in schools to develop literacy skills and foster a love of reading. She’s also run writing workshops for all ages in a multitude of settings, including libraries, bookshops, care homes and hospitals. She now works as a reader and developmental editor for The Literary Consultancy, and is a lead writer for one of Writing East Midlands’ Beyond the Spectrum groups for neurodivergent writers.
