About
Genevieve Carver is an award-winning writer and performer whose work has spanned poetry and spoken word, theatre, music, screenwriting and children’s fiction. Her first poetry collection, A Beautiful Way to be Crazy (Verve Poetry Press 2020) was based on a gig theatre show with live band The Unsung exploring female experiences in the music industry. She’s also the author of two pamphlets, Landsick (Broken Sleep Books 2023) and Birds / Humans / Machines / Dolphins (Guillemot Press 2024), the latter of which was written in residence with the University of Aberdeen’s School of Biological Sciences in response to their ecological fieldwork studying seabirds, dolphins and porpoises in Orkney and North-East Scotland. Her work has been published in journals including Mslexia, The White Review, The North, The London Magazine, Magma and Poetry News, and she won The Moth Nature Writing prize 2022.
Genevieve has performed at literary events and festivals including London’s Roundhouse, the Edinburgh Fringe, and Banff Centre Mountain Film and Book Festival in Canada. She’s one of the creative directors of Sheaf Poetry Festival in Sheffield.
Genevieve is an experienced creative writing tutor and facilitator for adults and children of all ages. Working to inspire and encourage young people motivated her to write for children. She previously worked as an archaeologist and studied a Masters in European Prehistory at Sheffield University, which inspired the setting for her first novel for young readers. All of Genevieve’s work is united by an interest in the transformative power of language.
