Before beginning to write, Jim C. Wilson worked in insurance, completed an MA (Hons) in English at Edinburgh University and taught for nine years in further education. Although he now concentrates on poetry, he has published numerous short stories and articles and two prose books: The Happy Land (Ramsay Head, 1991) and the autobiographical Spalebone Days (Kettillonia, 2002). He was writer-in-residence for Stirling District from 1989 to 1991.

He enjoys doing poetry readings and among the many places he has read are the Scottish Poetry Library, the Scottish Parliament and the St Andrews Poetry Festival. Since 1998 he has lived with his wife Mik in the East Lothian coastal village of Gullane, where he gardens, walks, or listens to music while waiting for inspiration.
