About
Josh Lacey is the author of more than 40 books for children, which have been published around the world and translated into twenty languages. Alongside his own creative work, he writes, teaches, and speaks about children’s books, creativity, and literature.
His first children’s book, A Dog Called Grk, was shortlisted for the Branford Boase award, and his other books range from picture books to Middle-grade novels. He is the author of the ten Dragonsitter books and a historical fiction series, The Time Travel Twins, all illustrated by Garry Parsons. He has collaborated with the artist Momoko Abe on several picture books including The Pet Potato. His other children’s books include Hope Jones Saves the World, Bearkeeper, and The Island of Thieves.
Before writing for children, he worked as a journalist, and wrote several plays and screenplays. He has written one book for adults, God is Brazilian, a biography of the man who introduced football to Brazil.
He regularly visits schools to talk about his work and enthuse young readers about reading and writing. He was writer in residence at the Roald Dahl Museum, Great Missenden, and has led many projects in schools to encourage children to enjoy writing creatively. He teaches creative writing to adults at City Lit and elsewhere.
He lives in London with his wife and their two daughters.
