Linda Marshall Griffiths

Linda Marshall Griffiths is an award-winning playwright and novelist. She is writing speculative fiction, with particular interest in examining how we tell stories about climate change, AI and the rights of women. Her first speculative novel, The Sky was the First Thing, was shortlisted/an honorable mention for the Andromeda prize, 2025. Her stage-play, The Invisible, was shortlisted for the 2024 Women’s Prize for Playwriting. Her work has won a Pearson award, Grand Prix at the Prix Marulić, and BBC Best Single Audio Drama. She also been a finalist for the Susan Smith Blackburn prize, MEN Best New Play and the Tinniswood award.

Linda has adapted multiple classic texts and writes contemporary mash-ups, examining how classics might speak to us now. Her adaptation, Saint Joan of the Anthropocene was a finalist in the 2025 Prix Italia, and received a Special Commendation for Best Adaptation in the BBC Audio Drama awards, 2026. She is developing her global podcast series, No Place but the Water, into a YA novel. She has a PhD in silence.

Her first and only proper job before becoming a writer was creating a youth theatre in Scunthorpe. She started with 30 young people and ended with 250. They made theatre in every possible space, about every possible thing. It was the best job of her life and as someone who is neurodiverse and got kicked out of school at sixteen, she continues to write and believe in the power and importance of making theatre for and with young people.

Her contemporary adaptation of The Secret Garden will be produced at the Leeds Playhouse in Spring 2027.
