About
Martyn Waites was born and brought up in Newcastle Upon Tyne. Before becoming a writer he was an actor. He has written six novels – Mary’s Prayer, Little Triggers, Candleland, Born Under Punches, The White Room and The Mercy Seat – as well as short stories and non-fiction. He has held two writing residencies, at Huntercombe Young Offenders Insitution and at HMP Chelmsford.
He has run arts-based workshops for socially-excluded teenagers and adults in Essex and south London. His novel, Bone Machine, was published in 2007 and he has also been nominated for a CWA Dagger Award.
