Meredith Miller is the author of four published novels and numerous short stories. Her fiction reflects her interest in history, the lives of women, and the relationship between women and science.
Meredith was shortlisted for the Rhys Davies story competition in 2022. Her stories have appeared in anthologies with Parthian Press and Fairlight Books, and in journals including Short Fiction, Stand, Alt Hist and Tamarind, a literary journal curated in part by physicists. Her first television adaptation is of her third novel, Fall River. Her fourth novel, Cold Grace (2025), weaves together histories of environmental change and the forced sterilisation of women in postcolonial New England.
Originally from New York, Meredith earned an MA in English and Comparative Literature from Columbia University and a PhD in English Literature from the University of Sussex. She has designed and led BA and MA programmes in Creative Writing at universities around the UK, and teaches writing in community settings in both Welsh and English.
Her novel project, Rock Paper Sister, is based in part on a real historical business which supplied implements for unregistered abortions in Britain from 1850 into the 1940s. Waiting in the queue of novels to be written are one on the astronomer Caroline Herschel and one on the seventeenth-century lepidopterist Eleanor Glanville.
In 2023, Meredith purchased the chapel which is attached to her house, in order to save it from development. She is working to restore the building as a community space for literature, music and the Welsh language.
