About
Miranda Miller is a novelist who has also published a book of short stories about Saudi Arabia, A Thousand and One Coffee Mornings (1989), which was nominated for a Pen Macmillan prize, and a book of interviews with homeless women and politicians, Bed and Breakfast: Women and Homelessness Today (1990). Loving Mephistopheles (2007) was described by Hilary Mantel as ‘an epic narrative full of energy, with the wild and joyful inventiveness of an Angela Carter story’. In his Guardian review of Nina in Utopia (2010) Alfred Hickling said, ‘The delight of Miller’s narrative is in determining whether the heroine really is mad.’ Her seventh novel The Fairy Visions of Richard Dadd was published in 2013 (Peter Owen). This is the second volume of the Bedlam trilogy, which explores the themes of art and madness.
Miranda has taught English in Italy, Libya, Saudi Arabia and Japan. In Oxford she taught creative writing for the Workers’ Educational Association and ran courses in film and fiction and in practical writing for Kellogg College. Miranda has a daughter and two stepchildren and lives in north London with her husband, a musician.
