M. J. Hyland is a multi-award-winning novelist, essayist and short-story writer. Shortlisted for the Man Booker prize and winner of both the Hawthornden prize and the Encore award, and shortlisted for the inaugural William Hazlitt Essay prize, and more. Her nonfiction has appeared in the Guardian, the Financial Times, Granta, and elsewhere. M J. Hyland also reviews film and TV for the BBC and works as a freelance editor for authors of both fiction and nonfiction. From 2007–2018 she was a university lecturer in English.
