About
Nadine Matheson is the author of the Inspector Anjelica Henley crime series, including The Kill List and The Shadow Carver (HQ, 2026). Born and raised in south-east London, she writes crime fiction shaped by more than two decades working as a criminal defence solicitor, where the daily realities of crime, justice and human motivation often find their way into her stories.
Before publication, Nadine won the 2016 City University crime writing competition and later completed an MA in Creative Writing, during which she wrote The Jigsaw Man (HQ, 2021), which went on to become her bestselling debut crime novel. The book was shortlisted for a Dead Good Reader award, the Diverse Book awards and an International Thriller Writers award. The third novel in the series, The Kill List, was longlisted for the Theakston Old Peculier Crime Novel of the Year in 2025.
Alongside her novels, she has contributed short fiction to anthologies including the Alfred Hitchcock-inspired collection Birds, Strangers and Psychos (Bedford Square, 2025). Nadine also writes about the realities of writing in her Substack newsletter, The Writer’s Verdict, and hosts The Conversation with Nadine Matheson podcast, where she speaks with authors about their books and creative journeys.
Since 2014, Nadine has taught criminal law and advocacy at BPP Law School and delivers advocacy and communication skills training to trainee solicitors. She also supports writers as a mentor. Nadine lives in south- east London and is currently writing a standalone novel.
