About
Nizrana Farook is a bestselling children’s author of Middle-grade adventure stories. Her debut novel, The Girl Who Stole an Elephant (Nosy Crow, 2020), was the UK’s biggest selling MG debut and a Waterstones book of the month. It was listed for numerous prizes, including the Blue Peter award and Jhalak prize, and nominated for the Carnegie Medal for Writing. Three more books followed, all set in the world of Serendib, inspired by the lush landscapes of her home country of Sri Lanka. In addition, Nizrana has written nonfiction educational texts for Oxford University Press and is a contributor to the popular Murder Club anthologies by Farshore Books.
Nizrana has worked with children in schools across the UK and overseas, helping them write their own adventure stories. She’s passionate about promoting good writing in classrooms, and sees her role with the Royal Literary Fund as an extension of that. She has a Master’s degree in writing for young people from Bath Spa University.
In a departure from her usual genre, Nizrana is currently working on a fantasy series. She lives with her family in Hertfordshire.
