About
Patricia Marques writes speculative crime fiction in which atmosphere, human relationships and a character’s place in the world are as central as the crime itself. She is the author of the Inspector Reis series, published by Hodder & Stoughton, which follows Isabel Reis — an inspector struggling to accept what makes her different in a world not built for people like her. Set in Portugal, the series blends contemporary crime with darker, speculative elements, shaped by a love of food, a keen eye for place and an appreciation for life’s quieter, easy- to-miss moments. She has been named by Fnac as one of ten Portuguese female authors to discover and has appeared as a panelist at Harrogate’s Theakston Old Peculier Crime Writing Festival, selected for the New Blood panel by Val McDermid, as well as at Bloody Scotland and First Monday Crime.
Alongside her fiction, Patricia is a career coach and writing facilitator. She has worked with postgraduate students at the Royal College of Art, delivered ‘Writing for Mindfulness’ workshops, and designed and led The Novel Hustle, a sixteen-week developmental programme for emerging novelists.
Born in Barreiro, Portugal, she moved to London aged eight and holds a BA in Creative Writing from the University of Roehampton and an MA in Creative Writing from City University. A self-confessed soft touch for animals, she can usually be found at her favourite local café, lost in a new story over a Turkish tea and easily distracted by every dog she passes.
