About
Rachael Davis-Featherstone is a mixed-raced Black-British multi-award-nominated author. She has published over twenty books ranging from picture books to women’s fiction and has been translated into seven languages. I Am NOT a Prince illustrated by Beatrix Hatcher (Hachette, 2022) was shortlisted for the Waterstones Children’s Book prize. Rachael has also been longlisted for the Diverse Book awards and shortlisted for the Inclusive Books for Children awards. Many of her books explore authentic representation of the Black-British mixed-race experience, including Oxford Blood (Walker, 2025).
Rachael champions diversity in literature and was a judge for the inaugural Jericho prize for Black-British children’s writers. She is a Non-Executive Director for the Authors’ Licensing and Collecting Society, a not-for-profit membership organisation started by writers for the benefit of writers. She is a Trustee for English Pen, who fight for everyone’s freedom to write and freedom to read around the world. Rachael is also the Vice-Chair of a large primary school Board and the designated SEND and Diversity Governor.
In 2024, Rachael co-founded Creative Roots Studio which helps writers and illustrators build sustainable careers. As a literary agent, Rachael represents an eclectic list of authors from a range of underrepresented backgrounds. Rachael grew up in a low-income single-parent family in London and studied Mathematics at Oxford University before doing a Masters in English literature at Surrey University. She now lives in Hampshire with her two young daughters and is pursuing a Creative Writing PhD at Bath Spa University on authentic mixed-race representation in children’s literature.
