Sarah Jasmon

Sarah Jasmon is a novelist and short story writer, now navigating the world of creative nonfiction and hybrid form. Her first novel, The Summer of Secrets, is a suspenseful coming-of-age story about how one simple action on a summer’s day can echo through the years. Her second, You Never Told Me, a ‘gripping and tender exploration of family secrets and shame’, follows Charlie along the English canals as she tries to piece together the mystery of her mother’s past. Her short stories have appeared in a range of publications and in 2018 she was shortlisted for the Harper’s Bazaar short story competition. ‘In Search of the Port of Manchester’, a creative nonfiction piece, is included in the Port anthology from Dunlin Press. An associate lecturer in Creative Writing at Manchester Metropolitan University, Sarah is also studying for a PhD in Creative Geography. Her research uses creative nonfiction to explore the canals and rivers of Manchester. She also tutors for The Brilliant Club, a charity working to increase the number of pupils from underrepresented backgrounds progressing to highly selective universities. As a co-founder of WomenTalkPlace, she is interested in how engagement with place is reflected in creative practice. Sarah lives on a canal boat with two dogs and a cat. She also brought up and home-educated three children onboard. She has always been a writer but only made a career of it in her forties following a divorce and an MA in Creative Writing; these last two were not unconnected.
