About

Jane McNulty is a playwright. Her last full-length play, Our Lady of the Goldfinches, an examination of the case of Jean McConville, a widowed mother of 10 who was murdered by the IRA in 1972, toured in May 2012. She has also had several shorter plays produced in Ireland and the UK, including Sit, Stay, Roll Over for the popular JB Shorts series in Manchester and Hard Water for the Bo Leichtreach festival in County Offaly, Ireland. Jane has also written for various long-running TV drama series including EastEnders, Doctors, Crossroads, Heartbeat, The Bill and Peak Practice. Her short stories, poetry and screenplays have won prizes in various competitions.

She currently teaches (scriptwriting) part-time at the University of Salford and mentors novelists for the Literary Consultancy. Jane has also taught at Liverpool John Moores University, Edge Hill University and Manchester Metropolitan University. She has more than 20 years’ experience of teaching creative writing to adults and children, including by distance learning through her creation the Writers’ Ark, a web-based co-operative of published and broadcast writer/tutors.

For her company, Small Mercies Productions, she is writing a new piece of physical theatre with plans to take it on tour.  She is also involved with organising a festival of new short plays for performance. Jane lives in Salford with her husband and devotes her spare time to volunteering for dog-rescue organisations.
