About

Julian Turner is a writer and poet with three collections of poetry from Anvil Press, the most recent of which Planet-Struck (2011) was a Poetry Book Society recommendation. His debut collection Crossing the Outskirts (2002) was shortlisted for the Forward best first collection prize and was also a Poetry Book Society recommendation. His second collection Orphan Sites was published in 2006. He has been anthologised in Anvil New Poets (1999) and in Identity Parade (Bloodaxe, 2010). Ian Duhig has praised his poetry as ‘distinguished by a compassion as intense as its musicality’.

Julian teaches poetry-writing courses for the Poetry School and other creative-writing organisations. His interest in the links between artistic creativity and positive mental health stems from 30 years’ experience of working in mental health, and he is currently working on a prose manuscript about mental health provisionally entitled ‘Metaphor and Silence’. He lives in Otley, west Yorkshire, where he works as a counsellor.
