Sarah Hilary

Sarah Hilary is the author of six books in the D.I. Marnie Rome series. Her debut, Someone Else’s Skin, won the Theakston Old Peculier Crime Novel of the Year, and was a Killer Nashville Silver Falchion award and Macavity award finalist in the USA.

Fragile is her seventh novel, a psychological thriller set in London and North Wales. Mick Herron called it ‘a dark river of a book’ while Marian Keyes praised its ‘almost scalpel-like ability to dissect human motivation and convey it deliciously devoid of sentimentality’.

Sarah is working on two further psychological thrillers, each of which will examine themes of human frailty and endurance. Her mother was a child internee of the Japanese in WW2; Sarah has written about her family history for EI8HT magazine, Bristol Review of Books and the Guardian.

Sarah Hilary’s short stories have won the Cheshire prize for Literature, the Fish Criminally Short Histories prize, and the Sense Creative award. She is a member of Killer Women – a crime writing collective supporting diversity, innovation and inclusion in their industry – and Programming Chair for St Hilda’s College Crime Fiction Weekend in Oxford. As well as teaching crime and thriller writing for Curtis Brown Creative, Sarah mentors crime fiction’s rising stars.

Based in Ledbury in Herefordshire, Sarah is more often found travelling between Cheshire and the North East, or abroad to Japan, Boston and across the United States, bringing back books and the germs of new ideas for short stories, features and novels.
