RLF writers join forces with Winnie-the-Pooh

Later this month RLF writers Jim Beckett, Jasbinder Bilan, Maisie Chan, Teresa Heapy, Sophie Kirtley, Michael Mann, Amanda Swift, Sheena Wilkinson and Anna Wilson will join Jane Riordan, author of Winnie-the-Pooh Meets The King and Once There Was a Bear, at Hillsborough Castle and Gardens in County Down, Northern Ireland, to kick off a summer of storytelling with Disney’s Winnie-the-Pooh.
Our writers will be leading live storytelling sessions as part of Winnie-the-Pooh’s Hunny Hunt, which sees Hillsborough’s own 100-acre gardens transform into a storybook wonderland for the summer. From 28 June to 31 August, a new author will bring the world of Winnie-the-Pooh’s Hundred Acre Wood to life each week, reading classic Winnie-the-Pooh tales and excerpts from their own books.
The storytelling sessions will take place in Owl’s Book Corner, one of several Winnie-the-Pooh-inspired locations around Hillsborough Castle and Gardens, which is cared for by the charity Historic Royal Palaces.
Treasure hunters will also be able to follow the Hunny Hunt trail through Rabbit’s Garden, Christopher Robin’s Thinking Spot, Eeyore’s Quiet Cabin and Piglet’s Cosy Burrow as they help Winnie-the-Pooh find ten of his missing hunny pots. There will also be daily storytelling led by the Castle’s Public Engagement Assistants, and Hillsborough’s Kids Go Free offer means children can access the gardens all summer.

After his death in 1956, Winnie-the-Pooh author AA Milne left the rights of his books to four groups: his family, the Royal Literary Fund, Westminster School and the Garrick Club.
