Alexandra Benedict

A.K. Benedict is a prizewinning writer of poetry, short stories, novels and scripts, specialising in speculative fiction. Her first book, The Beauty of Murder (Orion, 2013) tells of the pursuit of a time-travelling serial killer across history. It went on to be nominated for the eDunnit award and is in development for a major television series. Her second, The Evidence of Ghosts (Orion, 2015), led to her being described by the Sunday Express as ‘one of the new stars of… crime with a supernatural twist’.

Her short stories and poetry have appeared in journals and anthologies including New Fairy Tales, Magma, Orbis, Best British Short Stories 2012 (Salt, 2012), Scaremongrel (The Pigeonhole, 2015) Great British Horror (Blackshuck Books, 2016) and New Fears: masters of the horror genre (Titan, 2017). A. K. Benedict also writes radio drama, in particular for Doctor Who and Torchwood, mentors new writers and is a visiting lecturer in creative writing at City, University of London.

Before she embarked on her publishing career, A.K. Benedict was an indie-punk singer-songwriter as well as a composer for film and TV. She also acted in short films and on stage both professionally and with community theatres. She now acts when she can and performs internationally with a group of female crime writers in the dark cabaret act The Slice Girls. She lives in Kent with her partner and their dog, Dame Margaret Rutherford. She is currently writing various scripts, a children’s novel and a thriller set in the Arctic Circle.
