Jean McNeil is originally from Nova Scotia, Canada, but has lived in London since 1991. She is the author of ten books of fiction, travel, essays and most recently poetry (Night Orders: Poems from Antarctica and the Arctic). Her work has been shortlisted for the Commonwealth Writers’ Prize and for the Governor General’s Award in Canada.
In 2005/06 she spent four months in Antarctica as a British Antarctic Survey/Arts Council England fellow, an experience which inspired three published works of imaginative literature about the polar regions. She has also held residencies at the Environment Institute, University College London, and at the National Theatre. She teaches part-time on the MA in creative writing at the University of East Anglia.
