About
Jonathan Tulloch is a prizewinning novelist and naturalist. He writes the Natures Notes for the Times and has published ten books. His first novel, The Season Ticket, won the 2000 Betty Trask Prize. Serialised on BBC Radio 4 and staged numerous times, The Season Ticket was filmed as Purely Belter. In 2003 he won a J.B. Priestley award for The Lottery and in 2009 a K. Blundell award. His most recent book is Cuckoo Summer, a children’s novel based on family stories from wartime Lakeland. He has broadcast on Channel 4, BBC 4 and Radio 4, and can currently be heard on Times Radio.
Having run a reading group with asylum seekers in Middlesbrough for many years, Jonathan also plays in a ceilidh band. Recently, he and his wife moved to a rural two-up two-down which they share with a pair of nesting starlings and occasional visits from their urban-dwelling son. The only time Jonathan has ever driven a car resulted in a traffic jam in Whitley Bay.
