Kim Curran
Young Adult writer, Short-story writer
About
Kim Curran is an author, copywriter and creative writing tutor. She has published six books for young people. Her first trilogy, The Shifter Series (Strange Chemistry / Xist, 2012), was inspired by quantum physics and explored what would happen if teens had the power to change their decisions. And her most recent series Slay and Slay on Tour (Usborne, 2018) followed a demon-slaying boy band across the world.
As well as winning numerous awards as a creative director, Kim was shortlisted for the Sydney J. Bounds Best Newcomer award, 2012, and her short story, ‘A Woman Out of Time’, about the outstanding eighteenth-century French mathematician and natural philosopher Émilie du Châtelet was selected for the 2014 James Tiptree Jr award honor list.
Kim believes passionately in encouraging people to find their creative voice and runs workshops on embracing fear in creativity at schools and colleges. She is a Patron of Reading at her old school, where she works to encourage a culture of reading for pleasure. And she is a writing tutor at City Lit college.
She is always taking up new hobbies. And so far has done everything from fencing and boxing to climbing and even spoon whittling, all to prepare her for the inevitable zombie apocalypse. She lives in West London with her husband and dog. For her next project, Kim has been returning to her Irish roots by researching early Irish sagas.
