Lucy Flannery

Lucy Flannery is a radio drama and comedy writer; her credits include the play Like a Daughter, with Alison Steadman, Roy Hudd and Jonathan Aris, and the sitcom Rent, featuring Patrick Barlow and Barbara Flynn, which won the Writers’ Guild award for best radio comedy. She has also worked in television and film, notably on CBBC’s The Story of Tracy Beaker and A Business Affair, which starred Christopher Walken.

More recently, Lucy has embraced the challenge of writing for the stage, collaborating as a dramaturg with Soop Theatre on A Viking Tale, an adaptation of the 12th-century Icelandic Völsunga saga. She also adapted P.G. Wodehouse’s Thank You, Jeeves for performance at Wemsfest 2013. Lucy was one of the core writers for You, Me & Everyone in Portsmouth, a unique event in which a work of literary art was projected on to the façade of the city’s Guildhall over two evenings in October 2013. Arts Council England, the main funder, has confirmed that this was the UK’s largest ever crowd-sourced arts event.

A resident of Havant, Lucy created the town’s literary festival in 2008 and she is immensely proud of its continuing success. It is unique among festivals in that it combines author appearances with poetry, theatre, film, art, debate, workshops, walks, talks, music and quirky events that connect with all sections of the community. Married with a son and daughter in their teens, Lucy can often be found (plus dog) on Langstone beach, or on Twitter (minus dog).
