Magi Gibson

Magi Gibson has had five poetry collections published, most recently Washing Hugh MacDiarmid’s Socks (Luath) 2017. She’s won several writing awards including the Scotland on Sunday/Women 2000 Poetry Prize, has held three Scottish Arts Council Writing Fellowships and was Writer in Residence in Glasgow’s Gallery of Modern Art and Scottish Book Trust Reader in Residence in Glasgow Women’s Library. Poems appear in many anthologies, including Modern Scottish Women Poets, Scottish Love Poems (both Canongate) and The Twentieth Century Book of Scottish Poetry (Edinburgh University Press). She was the first Makar of the City of Stirling in 500 years. She co-edits The Poets’ Republic magazine and performs regularly with Word Jazzology in Scotland. She has written several novels for children, published by Puffin. Her play Our Boys was awarded a Tom McGrath Award. For over thirty years Magi has run successful creative writing workshops all over Scotland for people of all ages and abilities in a range of settings from prisons to universities, from day centres to Women’s Refuges. Favourite projects have included Teaching Environmental Studies through the Arts, and creative writing with seriously physically disabled adults. She founded and runs Wild Women Writing, and lives in Glasgow.
