About

Michaela Morgan is a children’s author and poet. She has a large body of work which includes fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and picture books. She has also written educational titles including books and materials for teachers.

Michaela’s books are published internationally and she has won, or been shortlisted for, several awards including the BBC Blue Peter Book award (twice), the Children’s Book of the Year, the UKRA Award for nonfiction, and library awards. Her poems are included in many anthologies and she has also been responsible, as editor and contributor, for three poetry collections.

The poetry collections are:
Words to Whisper, Words to Shout (shortlisted for the BBC Blue Peter Book award);
Wonderland: Alice in Poetry (shortlisted for the CLiPPA Poetry award);
Reaching the Stars: Poems About Remarkable Women and Girls won the other poetry award for children’s poetry, the NSTA.

Walter Tull’s Scrapbook, her nonfiction work about Walter Tull, was chosen as one of the Guardian’s Diverse Voices — a list of the 50 best culturally diverse children’s books published from 1950 to the present day. Her other book about Walter Tull, Respect, was voted the most popular book in the library at HM Prison Perth.

She has participated in many author events and also worked as a writer-in-residence in prisons.

Coming from a non-literary family, Michaela is very aware of the importance of literary and academic engagement and enjoys helping others to find their own success. She is working on her collected poems and her memoir.
