Peter Guttridge

Peter Guttridge is a novelist, journalist and writing tutor. His six comic novels are deemed ‘essential reading’ by the Times. City of Dreadful Night, the first of his Brighton trilogy, was published in August 2010. The second, The Last King of Brighton, and the third novel were published in 2011.

His non-fiction account of The Great Train Robbery (2009) for the National Archives was ‘the last word on the subject’ (The Good Book Guide).

He reviews fiction regularly for the Observer and has been a judge for a number of national writing competitions – in particular the Crime Writers’ Association (CWA)/Ian Fleming Steel Dagger and the CWA Foreign Crime Fiction prize.

Peter has been a freelance writer for 20 years. As a freelance journalist for all the posh (and some not-so-posh) newspapers and magazines he has written around 1000 features on a bewildering range of subjects. As a business and technical writer he has produced literature for some of Britain’s best known companies, including British Airways, Thomas Cook, Hertz Europe, ICL and the Royal Mail.

As a writing coach he has tutored in category B and D prisons (Grendon and Springhill); he has tutored the long-term unemployed; taught courses in promotional writing for small businesses; and taught fiction at Ty Newydd, the Arvon Foundation and the Skyros Centres in Greece, Thailand and Cuba.
