Rachel Bentham

Novelist, Radio/tv/screenwriter

About

Rachel Bentham loves writing both prose and script. Sometimes she tinkers with poetry. She is an experienced radio writer, having written many dramas and docu-dramas for BBC Radio 4, on subjects as varied as shoplifting, medieval gargoyles, Stonehenge, and an Edwardian parachuting diva. She is drawn to the esoteric and metaphysical, as well as the deliciousness of history.

Her film script Learning the Ropes won the Picture This prize, and many of her short stories have been broadcast by the BBC. At present she is finishing a novel set in Tahiti and a doctorate.

Rachel teaches creative writing for Bristol University, Oxford University and Bath Spa University, and also runs reading groups in the community for adults of all ages. Presently she lives calmly on a hill in Bristol with two daughters and two dogs, and is looking forward to planting more trees. She is very rarely bored.
