Rosalind Harvey

Rosalind Harvey is a critically-acclaimed literary translator, writer and mentor, focusing on contemporary Latin American and Spanish writing, including Juan Pablo Villalobos’ Down the Rabbit Hole (shortlisted for the Guardian First Book Award and the Oxford-Weidenfeld Prize) and Guadalupe Nettel’s Still Born, shortlisted for the 2023 International Booker Prize.

She has been translator-in-residence at the Free Word Centre, and runs events for the general public (including a real-world translation treasure hunt) as part of a drive to excite people about the creative act that is translation. She is keen to nurture writing and translation skills in others and has taught at the Universities of Warwick, Bristol and Roehampton, is a regular tutor on the Bristol Translates Summer School, and offers individual mentoring for early-career translators.

She is a 2018 Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature, a 2016 Arts Foundation Fellow, and a founding member of the Emerging Translators Network, a lively online community for early-career literary translators. In 2020 she was awarded an ‘International Changemaker’ bursary from the Coventry City of Culture trust to forge new cultural and literary links between Mexico City and Coventry, and works part-time in the council libraries in Coventry.

When not translating, Rosalind enjoys discovering new places to eat, live music, gardening, weird cinema, cooking for friends, and being out in nature. She is currently writing an experimental memoir about translation and therapy.
