Rupert Loydell

Rupert Loydell is a poet, painter, editor and publisher, and senior lecturer in English with creative writing at Falmouth University. He is interested in the relationship of visual art and language, collaborative writing, sequences and series, as well as post-confessional narrative, experimental music and creative non-fiction.

He has edited Stride magazine for over 30 years, and was managing editor of Stride Books for 28 years. His poetry books include Wildlife and Ballads of the Alone (both published by Shearsman), and The Fantasy Kid (for children); he has also edited anthologies for Shearsman, Salt and Knives, Forks & Spoons Press. He has produced collaborative texts with David Kennedy, Peter Dent, Luke Kennard, Nathan Thompson, Roselle Angwin, Sheila Murphy, Robert Sheppard and many others, and has exhibited his small abstract paintings across the UK, and in Europe and the USA.

Like This Press published Tower of Babel, a book-in-a-box which contains postcards of original paintings, an essay in a chapbook, along with a paperback anthology of poetry, while Encouraging Signs (Shearsman) contains interviews, essays and conversations. Born in London, Rupert now lives in a creekside village in Cornwall with his wife and children, cat, books and record collection.
