About
Sarah Corbett was born in Chester in 1970 and grew up in North Wales. She studied at Leeds University, the University of East Anglia and is currently completing a PhD in Creative Writing at the University of Manchester. She won an Eric Gregory Award for poetry in 1997 and her first collection of poems, The Red Wardrobe (1998), was shortlisted for a Forward First Collection Prize and the T.S. Eliot Prize. She has published two further collections with Seren Books – The Witch Bag (2002) and Other Beasts (2008). She is currently working on a new collection of poems supported by an Arts Council England Writer’s Award. In 1996 Sarah set up and ran the translation exchange project, Uit Het Hoofd/By Heart, with a group of Dutch and British poets. She has written several short films and a feature length script in collaboration with independent filmmaker, Gabrielle Russell. She is working with young composer, Rachel Lockwood, on a choral song cycle and she has completed her first novel for children. Sarah’s work has been widely anthologised and translated into German, Dutch and Bulgarian. Sarah taught Creative Writing for the Open University between 2004 and 2007 and is currently Lecturer in Creative Writing on Lancaster University’s Distance Learning MA. She lives in the Calder Valley with her teenage son, a dog, a cat and a Shetland pony.
