Sian Evans

Sian Evans was born and brought up in Bridgend, south Wales, and has a BA in French and English from Royal Holloway, University of London. She began her career as a translator and her translations include The Memoirs of Elizabeth Vigée Lebrun (Camden Press), Racine’s Britannicus (for the Sheffield Crucible) and Denise Chalem’s A Cinquante Ans (for the Liverpool Playhouse). As a playwright she has written Asleep Under the Dark Earth (BT/National Theatre, published by Faber), Badenheim 1939 (Second Stride at Riverside Studios), Little Sister (Made in Wales, published by Parthian Press) and The Journey of Mary Kelly (Theatr Clwyd, directed by Terry Hands).

Her original work for television and radio includes Dancing on the Turf and Seeing Is Believing (BBC Radio 4), Insect Life, Tide Race (BBC Wales) and a six-part series Hereafter with Stephen Tompkinson and Dervla Kirwan for ITV. Other television work includes episodes of Peak Practice, Touching Evil, Where the Heart Is, Casualty and a film for TF1 France, Life Swap. Her most recent stage play Terra was shortlisted in Amnesty International’s ‘Protecting the Human’ competition.

She is currently working on a play about Thomas Edison and a libretto for Sally Beamish with the Scottish contemporary opera company, Noise. She lives in Norwich with her two children and teaches screenwriting at the University of East Anglia.
