Steven Jacobi

Non-fiction writer, Novelist


Steven Jacobi’s work includes the novels Going Naked is the Best Disguise and A Short Series of Discrete Problems, the first of which has been dramatized on BBC Radio 4. He has also written works of non-fiction. Laughing Matters is a droll examination of the English sense of humour, for which he (briefly) became a stand-up comedian. Acting My Life is a biography, written in collaboration with the actor Ian Holm.

In addition to his books, Steven has also written for BBC Radio. Here, his work includes a number of radio plays, short stories, and a documentary. He has also contributed features and cultural criticism to many newspapers, magazines and academic journals. Steven has a doctorate on the novels of Angus Wilson and an MA in Screenwriting.

For several years he held teaching posts at Dulwich College and University College School, where he was head of English, before becoming a full-time writer. He was made a visiting fellow in the Department of English and Comparative Literary Studies at Warwick University in 2007.
