Vincent McInerney
Playwright, Radio/tv/screenwriter
About
Vincent has written widely for radio. His output includes: an original play, The Serang, for Radio 4; two commissions for Play of the Week on the World Service; an adaptation of Three Hours After Marriage (Gay, Pope, Arbuthnot) described by The Listener as ‘genuinely funny’; a dramatisation of Nathanael West’s Miss Lonelyhearts for Radio 3 (‘superb’ – Independent on Sunday); plus various short stories, drama-documentaries and poems for BBC networks. Vincent was also one of three writers responsible for Radio 4’s Complete Sherlock Holmes. In 2001, his textbook, Writing for Radio, appeared from Manchester University Press.
Beginning with the Merchant Marines and Liverpool University, Vincent’s career has also extended to the stage and film and to educational work with prisoners. His play, Four Murders and a Drugs Bust – based on five first-hand accounts collected while working as a writer-in-residence at high-security prisons – was praised by The Stage as ‘affecting and compelling’. Vincent has taught courses in radio, TV and screenwriting for many organisations including the Winchester Writers’ Conference and the UK Film Council at Screen East, where he was a consultant. He was also film officer for the charity CSV Media. Vincent’s film company, Packet Productions, is dedicated to low-budget British arthouse/commercial features.
