What should go in appendixes and footnotes?

“I think the appendix should contain anything that’s not essential and anything that’s going to detract from the flow of the work. That would include additional explanations just in case a reader is interested, survey questionnaires or interview schedules, legal documents, letters requesting access permission, other correspondence, additional figures or tables.”
