When should I ask people to read my work?

The main criterion for me is ‘I seemed to have taken this project as far as I can on my own.’ Then I might put the project away for a couple of months and come back to it fresh or send it out for it to be read over that two-month period. Sometimes, if it’s a rush to get something out, I might ask for feedback right at the end; anything libelous in this? Any minor changes needed?’ The books that I’ve felt have worked best are those where they have had several rounds of feedback. Sometimes the first feedback has come from a page of notes stemming from the original idea – ‘can you see the book in this?’”
